Earl Floyd Culbertson, the son of George and Ammie Harrington Culbertson, was born at Clay Center, Kansas, March 22, 1888. He passed away at the Delaware County Hospital on August 10, 1977 at the age of 89.
Earl came with his parents by covered wagon from Kansas when he was a year old and settled on the family homestead east of Edgewood where he lived until moving to Edgewood in 1972.
He was united in marriage to Winnifred Ash, Sept. 1913. To this union were born two daughters. Mrs Ash passed away in January 1916. He then married Laura Hamlett on June 12, 1918. They became the parents of four sons.
Earl was engaged in farming and also did some carpenter work. He was a 66 year member of the Edgewood Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are his wife Laura; two daughters, Helene (Mrs. Warren Hansel), Joyce (Mrs. Wayne Smith); four sons, Durward, Merwin and Dale of Edgewood and Wilbur of Grundy Center; one sister Mrs. Elva Ashline of Manchester, fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and a grandson, Lowell Culbertson.
Masonic services were held at the Appleton Funeral Home Thursday evening. Funeral services were held at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Iowa, Friday morning August 12, 1977, conducted by the Rev. Rex Piercy. Arthur Holthaus, sang "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied on the organ by Gladys Holthaus.
Casket bearers were Dan Harbaugh, Harlan Beatty, Clay Ash, Lyle Hamlett, Ed Meyer and Gerald Maiers. Burial was made in the Edgewood Cemetery.
