Services for LaVern F. Stoeffler, 80, of rural Garber were conducted by Rev. Richard Gaul at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Guttenberg.
Mr. Stoeffler died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Visitation was Sunday at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.
Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Guttenberg, with the following pallbearers: Ron Doeppke, Gail Scheffert, Edward Uriell, Loen Hansel, Roger Szemkus and Wayne Zuercher. Honorary bearers were James Fassbinder, Mike Tujetsch, Joe Ihm and Tom Tujetsch. Military rites were accorded by Clay-Gar American Legion Post.
LaVern F. Stoeffler was born Sunday, June 23, 1918, a son of Harry and Hilda (Fassbinder) Stoeffler. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1936; served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II; was a meat cutter with his father at Stoeffler's Meat Market in Guttenberg, and farmed with his family for many years.
He was united in marriage on Feb. 28, 1946 to Helen Berns at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Mrs. Mary (Jim) Krapfl of West Des Moines; one son, Michael (Suzanne) Stoeffler of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Adele (Jerry) Tujetsch of Guttenberg and Norma Stoeffler of Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
