Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Joseph's Church, Garnavillo, for Oscar J. Auer, who died at the Riverview Care Center, Guttenberg, October 13, 1971, at the age of 77.
Father Norbert Showalter was officiating clergyman. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Born on March 18, 1894, his parents were Frank and Margaritte Riegel Auer. He received his education at St. Joseph's School in Garnavillo.
Mr. Auer never married. He lived his entire life as a farmer on the Auer homestead in Garnavillo township. In October 1966, due to ill health, he moved to Elkader, where he lived until July 13, 1968. Mr. Auer and his sister, Ambrosia, were taken to the Guttenberg Care Center, where he remained a patient until the time of his death. His sister Ambrosia is the only survivor.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George; one sister, Mrs. Tom (Anna) Garaghty; three half brothers, Otto Beck, Edward and Frank Auer; and three half sisters, Mrs. Xavier (Mary) Schaffers, Mrs. Fred (Clara) Wissell and Sister M. Columbia.
Pallbearers were his great-nephews, Mark and Michael Niehaus, Dennis and Richard Troester.
Tuecke Funeral Home was in charge.
