Sister Carla Berns, OSF, 95, of Holy Family Hall, Dubuque, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Holy Family Hall Infirmary.

The Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, June 30, in Mount St. Francis Chapel.

Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation was on Wednesday with the wake service at the Mount St. Francis Chapel.

Carla was born the daughter of Henry and Mary Helena (Schaefers) Berns, Feb. 19, 1910 in Guttenberg.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis on Aug. 15, 1929 and made final profession of vows on Aug. 10, 1935. Sister was an educator in the Iowa cities of Dubuque (Sacred Heart and St. Mary), Waterloo (St. Mary), Dyersville; Corpus Christi, Chicago, Ill. and in Portland, Ore.

Sister is survived by nieces and nephews and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared 75 years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Cletus, Joe, Carl, Clarence, Eugene, Guido, Amadeus, Henry, and Xavier; and her sisters, Dora, Alberta and Etta.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque.

Miller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
