Services for Mrs. Arthur (Carmen) Herman Sr., 79, were conducted by Father Paul Peters at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Mrs. Herman died Friday, Aug. 14, 1992 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a brief illness.
Burial was in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were James Herman, Mark Herman, Michael Herman, Kevin Herman, Cliff Payne and Jeffrey Moser. Honorary bearers were Susan Portwine, Phyllis Harbaugh, Kim Herman, Patti Niensteadt, Elizabeth Herman, Debbie Moser and Carmen Moser-Payne.
Visitation was Sunday at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home where scripture wake service was held that evening.
Carmen Verda Herman was born April 2, 1913 near Elkader, a daughter of George and Elsie (Bolsinger) Portwine. She attended country school and later was employed at the American Pearl Button Company and the Muter Co., both in Guttenberg. She was married March 1, 1930 at St. Mary Church to Arthur Herman Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Bernita Moser of Strawberry Point; two sons, Curtis of Dubuque and Arthur Jr. (and Lilamae) of Guttenberg; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris and Ruby.
