Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Aug. 1912. In the Strawberry Point column.

John F. Davis was born May 31, 1848, in Luzerne county, Pennsylvania, and died in Chicago, August 8, 1912, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and eight days.

Mr. Davis had been in poor health for the past year and about five weeks ago he and Mrs. Davis went to Chicago, where he was receiving special treatment. He seemed to be considerably benefited by the treatments and they were all ready to start home, in fact they were leaving the hotel to take a cab to the depot and had reached the sidewalk where he dropped dead. A physician was called at once but death, he said, was instantaneous, the cause being a bursted blood vessel, in the head.

At nine years of age he moved, with his parents to DeKalb county, Illinois, where he resided until the year 1865, when they removed to Iowa, settling first in Delaware county, later moving to Clayton county, near Strawberry Point, where he lived until the year 1900. He then moved to town, where he resided until the time of his death.

On March 3rd, 1875, he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Richardson. No children were born to this union.

He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife, three brothers and two sisters: B. B. Davis, of this city; J. W. Davis, of Manchester; R. H. Davis, of Glasgow, Montana; Mrs. Lathrop, of Elliott, Iowa, and Mrs. Griste, of Belle Plaine, Kansas, all of whom were present at the funeral except R. H. and Mrs. Griste.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. Baily, of the Baptist church. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery.
