Services for John A. Steil, 52, of rural Guttenberg were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista with the Rev. Daniel Knipper, pastor, and the Rev. Clarence Friedman celebrating.
Mr. Steil died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1982 at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a long illness.
Burial was in the church cemetery with the following pallbearers: Leroy Bettcher, Greg and Lester Hefel, Al Frey, Bob Ludovissy, Donald Steil, Pat Breitbach and Leroy Wachendorf. The parish wake service was Thursday evening at Behr's Funeral Home in Dubuque.
Mr. Steil was born Jan. 1, 1930 in Dubuque, a son of Albert and Anna Ehrlich Steil. He was married at Dubuque Apr. 20, 1949 to Geraldine Cummings, who survives. Mr. Steil was a 35-year employee of John Deere Co. until his retirement in February 1982. He was a member of U.A.W. Local No. 94 and a member of the Holy Name Society of Immaculate Conception parish.
Surviving besides his wife, Geraldine, are two daughters, Mrs. Karen Barrett of Colesburg and Kimberly Ann, at home; four sons, John W. of Dubuque, Dave E. of Colesburg, Gordon J. of Anamosa and Keith A. presently attending school in Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren; his parents, Albert and Ann Steil of Dubuque; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Geraldine) Hurlbert and Mrs. Ken (Dianne) Parks, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and one brother, Edward Steil of Dubuque.
