Mrs. Esther Kalke, the daughter of Carl Glawe and his wife Anna Junk was born May 27, 1903, at Elkader, and died in the Palmer Memorial hospital at West Union Sunday morning, July 10, at the age of 52 years, one month and fourteen days.
Mrs. Kalke spent her entire life in this community. She received her education in the rural school. In the year 1922, she was united in marriage to Hugo Kalke. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. John Joseph (Lillian) Engler of Garnavillo, and Edwin Kalke of Elkader.
Mrs. Kalke had been in ill health for the past two years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran church at Clayton Center.
Survivors include her husband, the afore mentioned children, one grandchild, and four great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Amanda and Cora, and one grandchild preceded her in death.
Services were held Wednesday, July 13, from Witt's funeral home at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Clayton Center, with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating.
Pallbearers were: Erwin Taake, Robert Niehaus, Kenneth Breitsprecher, Freddie Lahrs, Harold Seifert and Valmah Gossman.
