Clayton County Register and Argus, Thur., 2 Mar. 1916. Farmersburg column.
The funeral services of Mrs. Nancy Adams were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in this city, on Monday morning, at ten o'clock, following a short prayer at the home, the Rev. Bird, of Monona, officiating.
At the services the following short sketch of the life of the deceased, and a tribute to her beautiful life of service were read by John Everall, an old friend:
"Mrs. Nancy Adams, nee White, died at her home in Farmersburg, February 25th, 1916. She was born in Cadis, Ohio, June 7th, 1830, and would have been 86 years old had she lived until her next birthday. She was married to Benjamin Adams, in Brook County, W.Va., October 10th, 1847, and with her husband moved to Farmersburg township, Clayton county, Iowa, in the spring of 1856, which has since been her residence. Mr. Adams died March 19th, 1903, nearly fifty-six years from the date of their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Adams were some of the pioneers of this county and did their part in making it what it is today. With her husband she joined what was then called the Christian Church, in 1859, and ever lived a consistent Christian life. She leaves to mourn her departure four sons, Viz. W. Q. and James T. Adams, of Farmersburg, Iowa; E. W. Adams, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Frank M. Adams, of Seattle, Wash.; also one granddaughter, Miss Edna Adams, of Seattle, Wash. The second son, Samuel K. Adams, who was a prominent lawyer at Elkader, died at that place in 1885. She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Belle Moore, of Morgan Park, Ill, Mrs. Jane A. Campbell, East St. Louis, Ill., and Mrs. Elizabeth Yates, Samuel White and James White, of Beatrice, Neb. Mrs. Adams was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and faithful friend. In her declining years her useful, bright and cheerful disposition should be and is an inspiration to all who knew her. Surely, the bread she has cast upon the waters will be found after many days. With the picture of her always cheerful smile and words of greeting imprinted on our memory album, we say "farewell, old friend, we shall soon follow, and we trust that guided by the light you followed, we may leave as bright a trail to be seen by those who follow us as you have left". Her mark is made, she rests from labor."
A quartette, composed of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Wilke, and Mrs. White, of Elkader, and Wm. Ulrich, of Monona, sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul", "Nearer my God to Thee", and one other selection during the service. Miss Kitte Little, of Farmersburg, accompanied them on the organ. The body of the loved one was laid to rest beside the remains of her husband, in Farmersburg cemetery. The pall bearers were John Everall, James Mathews, Louis Fuelling, Chas. Hinsch, Gott Zurcher and Dr. Brandt.
Those present from out of town were E. W. Adams and wife, of Milwaukee; Frank Adams, of Seattle; Mrs. Nichols, of Monona; Johnson Niell and John Hartwick, of Giard; Wm. Ulrich, of Monona; E. M. Paul, G. H. Wilke and wife and Mrs. G. G. White, of Elkader.
All of Mrs. Adams children were present at the funeral.
