Funeral services for Joseph Patrick Hoover, 61, were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 1958, at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Daniel A. Gorman officiated at the requiem high mass, with the Rev. Luke Donlon, an uncle of Mr. Hoover, in the sanctuary. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery.

Joseph Patrick Hoover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hoover, was born June 24, 1896, on the Hoover farm near Elkader, and died Thursday evening, Jan. 16, in Mercy hospital in Dubuque, where he had been a patient for a week.

He was educated in the local schools. His entire life was spent in and around Elkader. In 1921, he was married to Martha Kelleher. To them were born two children, Robert of Des Moines, and John of Iowa City.

Mr. Hoover was a member of the Agricultural Stabilization (word blurred) board for four years. He helped organize the first board of the Farmers Co-operative creamery and served on its board for 26 years. At the time of his death he was a Boardman township clerk, director of the Boardman township telephone company, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Name society, and St. Joseph's Catholic church.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, who died in infancy, and his father, who died in 1942.

Those who survive besides his wife and two sons are four grandchildren, Mary Joe, Nancy Ann, and Joseph Robert Hoover of Des Moines, and Michael Hoover of Iowa City, his mother, Mrs. Mary Hoover, and a brother, Arthur, both of Elkader.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the services were: Kathryn and Delores Regan, Mrs. Mae Donlon, Dr. Wm. Donlon and Frank Uriell Jr., all of Chicago, Ill.; James Kelleher, Pico, Calif.; Roy Bredfield, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Ella Glennon, Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Woodruff, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peterson, Joe Sullivan, John Rider, Dick Kelly, Dr. and Mrs. Luke Faber, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. John Weyland, Jim Boland, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ella Webber, Mrs. Ray Webber, Independence; Wm. Carson and Ben Meyer, Tama; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Boland, Central City.

Pallbearers were: Alfred Frommelt, Fred Hennig, Oliver Eno, Arno Mueller, Ed Hyde and John Stence.
