Elkader Register, Thur., 22 June 1905.
Our town was startled last Friday afternoon by the receipt of a telephone message saying James Church, who had left his home in apparent good health to go to St. Olaf for a load of coal, had been found lifeless a short distance this side of that place.
Circumstances seemed to indicate that having started on his return trip he had sucombed to heart failure and fallen from his seat beneath the wagon, the horses stopping without running over him.
James Perry Church was born in Littleport, this county, June 4, 1872. His parents afterwards removed to Giard, where they kept a hotel. There and at McGregor Mr. Church as a boy received his school education.
On the first day of January, 1897, he was married to Frederica Kluth. Later they moved to Farmersburg, where they have since made their home. Besides his wife and two children he leaves two sisters in California.
Mr. Church filled the offices of constable and street commissioner at the time of his death, and his quiet, genial, and charitable disposition endeared him to many.
Appropriate funeral services were conducted in both English and German by Rev. Br__n, and also by the M. W. A. lodge, of which Mr. Church was a faithful member.--Farmersburg cor. Democrat.
