Mrs. Sophie Staack, 84, died at her home in Clayton Center, Sunday evening, March 7, at 11:15 o'clock. She had been confined to her bed for about a month.
Mrs. Staack was the former Sophie Marie Elise Paegel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Paegel, and she was born in Kuhstorf, Mecklenburg, Germany, Oct. 31, 1858. She was only six years old when her mother died. In 1882, when she was 22, she came to America with Karl Staack, to whom she was married on March 21 that year.
Mr. and Mrs. Staack lived in Clayton Center for the remainder of their lives. They had been married 59 years when Mr. Staack died suddenly June 15, 1941, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Staack was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center.
She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Sophia Dahl of St. Olaf, Mrs. Anna Hagensick of Elkader and Mrs. Louisa Gossman of Clayton Center; two sons, William L. Staack of St. Olaf and Arthur Staack of Mederville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Zion Lutheran church at 2 p.m. March 10, with Pastor D. A. Flesner officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
