Lambert Sickel, the subject of this sketch was born in Dubuque, Iowa Dec. 22, 1857, came to Elkport in 1870, and there married Louisa Meyer, February 5th, 1878. To this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. The deceased is survived by the stricken wife and Bertha Veibrock of Lavina, Mont.; Alma Grantzmacher, Minneapolis; Vernon, Mitchell, S.D.; Dorothy Bilden, also of Lavina, Mont., and Lorraine of Elkader. The family came to this town in 1878 and has resided here for the past forty-five years, where Mr. Sickel was well and favorably known. He was industrious and a law abiding citizen, and accumulated a comfortable competence for his children, all of them receiving a liberal education.

The people respected him, and "said it with flowers." There was a large attendance at the funeral, conducted by Rev. W. K. Braun of Garnavillo. The pall bearers were: Ed Oelke, Lars Thompson, Fred Dieckman, Fred Vogt, Henry Walter and Chas. Hinsch. Burial at F. & W. Cemetery. He worked at the carpenter trade, and shoe making, also among the farmers of this vicinity giving value received for the cost of his labor. Deceased was stricken with partial paralysis on Nov. 15, and passed away on the evening of the 22nd. The funeral was held on Sunday the 25th. All relatives present except Mrs. Viebrock and Mrs. Bilden of Montana.

Note: The surname Viebrock/Veibrock was spelled both ways in the article.
