William H. Boland died at the University hospital at Iowa City Sunday, March 7, after a four day illness resulting from a rheumatic heart.
Mr. Boland was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Boland and was born April 5, 1883, in Highland township. He was married to Anna West. They settled on a farm near Elkader where most of his life was spent. The past four years he has lived at Harpers Ferry. To this union seven children were born, Harold of California, John of Harpers Ferry, Pvt. Ray Boland of Fort Sam Houston, Tex., Pvt. Cyril Boland of Los Angeles, Calif., Pvt. Arthur Boland of Fort Sill, Okla., Gene of Harpers Ferry and Merril, who preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1940.
Mr. Boland is survived by one grandchild, three brothers, John Boland of Oskaloosa, Fred Boland of Armstrong, and James Boland of Farmington, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Nohie of Lacrosse, Wis.
The funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Friday morning, March 12th, at 9:30, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. James P. Taken officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery with the following pallbearers: D. F. Willmes, Joe Hoover, Arthur Hoover, Fred Henning, Nick Miller and Fred Thillen.
Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were: Cletus Boland of Fairbault, Minn.; Paul Boland of Burlington; Mrs. Agnes Nohie of LaCrosse, Wis.; and numerous friends and neighbors of Harpers Ferry.
