Clayton County Register, Thur., 18 Mar. 1943.

Funeral services for John Carl Kruse, 67, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning at Minneapolis, March 5, were held in Clayton Center March 9. Mr. Kruse had been employed at the YMCA in Minneapolis for 15 years. It was while on duty there that he was overcome by deadly gas coming from the empty stoker of the YMCA furnace. When the gas was discovered by a fellow worker the fire department was called but Mr. Kruse had been dead for several hours.

Mr. Kruse was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kruse and was born in Clayton Center, July 24, 1875. Dec. 4, 1896, he was married to Emma Ehendorff, who survives him with two daughters, Mrs. Adelia Kruse of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Alice McCann of Minneapolis.

In 1909 the family moved to South Dakota and in 1927 they went to Minneapolis, which has since been their home. Mr. Kruse was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of Minneapolis, serving as a deacon on the church board and being a member of the Brotherhood.

Other survivors include two grandchildren; Curtis Kruse and John McCann; two brothers, George Kruse of Elkader, and Henry Kruse of Farmersburg; and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Seeland of Elkader. One sister, Mrs. Fred Glawe of Elkader, preceded him in death two years ago.

Funeral services were held in Minneapolis, March 8, and at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, March 9, with Pastor D. A. Fles__ officiating. Burial was in the Clayton Center cemetery.
