Once more we are called upon to chronicle the death of one of our oldest pioneers, Mrs. A Densmore.
The deceased was stricken with paralysis June 26th, 1908, and since that time has been perfectly helpless, although able to be wheeled about in an invalid chair. During the first four months of her sickness she was tenderly cared for by her son Fred of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. M.R. Sims of this place. October the 26th, she was taken to the home of her son Frank where she remained until March 17th. Then being removed to her home where she was cared for by her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Lynde, until her death which occurred Tuesday morning, June 15th, 1909.
Her aged husband proved faithful throughout her lingering illness and was by her bedside to the last. Everything was done fro her recovery that loving hands and hearts could do, but of no avail.
Ann Webster was born in Cattaraugus county, New York, September 23rd, 1837. She was married to A. Densmore November 14yh, 1854. To this union were born three children: Fred A., of Long Beach, California, and Frank and Mrs. Flora Lynde of this place. ( Edgewood )
They came to Edgewood, Iowa, August 1st, 1888, where they have since resided. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church about fifty years ago to which she has always been much devoted and also a faithfull worker in the Woman's Home Missionary Society, Ladies' Aid Society and Woman's Christian Temperance Union by which organizations she will be greatly missed.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church Thursday, June 17th, 1909, at two o'clock p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev, Frank Frizzell, who used for his text the following passage of scripture: " The world passeth away and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever." 1st John, 2-17.
The church was draped with lavender and white and bunches and wreaths of white peonies. The remains were followed to the home cemetery by a large circle of friends by whom she will be missed as well as by the immediate family. The deceased is survived by four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Marian Smith of Olean, N.Y.; Mrs. Harriet Morian and Bela and Henry Webster of Hinsdale, N.Y.; Mrs. Jennie Davis of Holland, and Mrs. Jeanette Osgood of Ischus, N.Y.
