Note: His name appears on a list of CW soldier burials in the Strawberry Point cemetery, published in the Strawberry Point Press Journal, 4/4/1990. Although he appears on Civil War Draft Registration lists and FamilySearch.org has a G.A.R. membership record stating he served in Co. F. 12th U.S. Inf., no other record of service in the war was found by the obit contributor. Although not inpossible that he served in the 12th U.S. Infantry at some time, his son Albertus did serve & appears on the 'Soldiers & Sailors' website as a member of Co. F, 12th U.S. Infantry during the CW. Albertus also lived in the Sawvelle Soldier's Home in California and is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery. David's 1882 Biography also states his son served in the regular army during the CW, but doesn't mention any military service for David.
