William C. Madison was born in Lewiston, Illinois, October 16th, 1830, and died at his home in Edgewood, Iowa, January 12th, 1909.
Having been berrett of his parents in early childhood, he emigrated to the suburbs of Edgewood, Iowa in 1843, as an orphan boy. In 1858 he married Sarah Maria Robinson who died in 1875. In 1876 he married Sarah Scofield who survives him. Mr. Madison was a self-made man. His ambitious, industrious and frugal habits enabled him to accumulate more than the ordinary amount of this worlds goods.
Since 1882, as a retired farmer, he has been a resident of Edgewood where he has always been known as a man of sterling character. he was unassuming and reserved in disposition. He gave his heart to God and joined the M.E. church nearly a half century ago, to the interests of which he was ever true till he quitted the church militant to joined the church triumphant.
For several years he was the victim of wasting diseases from which the only relief was death. The surviving widow, who for over thirty years ministered to his needs in the kindest manner, and all the relatives may be assured of the profoundest sympathy of the entire public in their deep grief.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, January 14, Rev. Frank Frizzell, pastor of the church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. True and Rev. Hubbell, old acquaintances of the deceased. Several members of the Octogenarian club of which the deceased was an honored member, attended the services in a body. The large crowd of people in attendance at the funeral denoted the high esteem in which "Uncle Billy", as he was commonly known around town, was held.
