GEORGE DESOTELL CALLED BY DEATH FRIDAY
WAS FORTY-THREE YEARS OLD,
FUNERAL HELD ON MONDAYGeorge DeSotel, one of this community's highly respected residents, passed away at his farm home northwest of Guttenberg on Friday, July 6, 1928, at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 10 days. Mr. DeSotel had been in poor health for some time previous to his death, but had been able to be up and around and assist with the work on the farm, and therefore his sudden death came as a shock to all in this community.
Deceased was born on a farm in Millville township, Clayton county, Iowa, on October 26, 1884, where he grew to manhood. His entire life was spent in Clayton county. On March 5, 1905, he was united in marriage with Miss Susan Rolfes at Guttenberg, Iowa.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Desotel settled on a farm a short distance northwest of town, where deceased spent the remainder of his life.
Mr. DeSotel was a kind and true husband, father, brother and friend, and was ever ready with heart and hand to give assistance to all in need, which won him many friends during life and by whom he will be forever remembered. To know him was to like him. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the R. C. M. P. S.
All was done for him that could be done to save his life, but all to no avail.
His death is deeply mourned by his wife, seven children, Mrs. Leo Frommelt, of National; Leona, Leo, Mildred, George, Jr., Mark and Dorothea, all of Guttenberg; three brothers, Joe, of Luana, John of Chicago, and Edward, of Petersburg; five sisters, Mrs. J. G. Franks, of near Colesburg, Mrs. George Blodgett, of Dubuque, Mrs. George LePage, of Peoria, Ill., Sister Mary Irma, of St. Francis Convent, LeMars, Iowa, and Mrs. Robert Wesley, of Los Angeles, California, and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. Four brothers and four sisters have preceded Mr. DeSotel in death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city on Monday morning. The body was laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends from far and near were in attendance at the funeral. The family has the sympathy of all in this community.

LePage, of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Louis DeSotel and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin DeSotel, Mr. and Mrs. Werner Fassbinder and two sons, all of Dubuque; Mrs. Amelia Franks and children, of Colesburg; John Kauffman and children, of Millville; Mr. and Mrs. Franks Rolfes, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rolfes and children, of West Union; Mr. and Mrs. George Rolfes and children, Mr. and Mrs. William Hoefer and children, of Petersburg; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Frommelt and children, of National; Max Schmelzer, of West Union; Silverius Matt, of Glen Haven, Wisconsin; Frank Rolfes, of Garnavillo; Miss Marie Matt, of La Crosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Schmelzer and son and Mr. and Mrs. August Olson, of Garnavillo.

DeSotel-Rolfes.
The marriage of Miss Susan Rolfes to George F. DeSotel was solemnized by Rev. Jos. Brinkmann at St. Mary's church, Wednesday March 1, 1905, at 9:30 a.m. May DeSotel was bridesmaid and Frank Rolfes, Jr., was best man. A reception was given at the home of the bride's parents to a large number of relatives and friends of the contracting parties. Many valuable and beautiful presents were given the young couple as tokens of high esteem in which they were held. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rolfes and is well known as an estimable, and deserving young lady and will make a pleasing companion for him who has won her hand. The groom is an energetic and upright young man and of good habits. A delicious wedding supper was greatly enjoyed after which music and dancing was in order. Hearty congratulations and best wishes were extended to the bride and groom. They will go to housekeeping on the island farm rented of T. L. Harvey. The Journal joins their many friends in wishing them happiness and prosperity.
