MRS. H. F. BAARS

VOLGA: The death of Mrs. H. F. Baars, 80, occurred Tuesday, October 25, 1966, at the Moser Nursing Home, Strawberry Point, following a long illness.

Byrtilla R., daughter and second child of David L. and Isabelle Gould Adams, was born May 7, 1886, near Haddam, Washington County, Kan.

The family moved to Volga City in 1903 and ‘Bertie’ spent nearly all her life in this vicinity.

She was married to Herman F. Baars in the home of D. J. Crain on February 27, 1911, and they made their home in and around Volga City for many years. Mr. Baars preceded her May 18, 1957. Mrs. Baars continued her residence in Volga City until she was no longer able to live alone. She then made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bowdish on highway 112, for three years. Later, she resided at the Lutheran home in Strawberry Point.

Last August 17, she fell and suffered a broken hip. She submitted to surgery at Iowa City and was a patient there until several days ago, when she was brought to the Moser home where her death occurred.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Charley, Walter, Price and Carl Adams, two sisters, Carrie Davis and Mabel Randall. She leaves two brothers, Fred Adams, Waterloo; Omar Adams, New Hampton; one sister, Freda Adams, Garnavillo, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Feeney-Knutson chapel. Louis Brandt and Henry Wahls, Garnavillo, conducted the service.

Casket bearers were B. W. Crandall, James Duff, Ronald Moore, Roy Rinkert, Kenneth Roys and Hugh Tenney. Interment was in Hill Crest Cemetery, Volga City.

Among relatives and friends present at the service were Fred Adams, Waterloo; Freda Adams, Mamie Minger, Jim Palmer, Mrs. Harold Brandt, Mrs. Robert Brandt, Mrs. Vern Wirkler, Mrs. Larry Gull, Mrs. Don Kregel, Mr. and Mrs. Val Brandt, all of Garnavillo; Mrs. Phoebe Marble, Mrs. John Bauer, Prarie du Chien; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Adams, Arlington; Mrs. Carrie Gottschalk, Mrs. Katie Baars, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Seifert, Elkader, Mrs. Ruth Clinton, Communia; Anson B. Randall, Holy Cross; Mrs. Gerald Bateman, Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Les Patrick, Mrs. Les Patrick [sic], Mrs. Gene Patrick, Guttenberg; Myrtle Randall of Strawberry Point; Irma Eickelberg, Waterloo; Mrs. Joe McNeil, Postville; Mr. and Mrs. James Duff, Clermont; Bruce Bowdish and family, Mrs. Merwyn Puffett, rural Strawberry Point.
