ALFRED R. BAARS
Alfred Robert Baars, son of Henry and Augusta Baars, was born Feb. 10, 1900, in Highland township near Volga, and died in a tractor accident while working for Arthur Elvers on the Bennington farm Friday morning, April 21, at the age of 50 years, two months and 11 days.
He received his education in the public school at Elkader and was a confirmed member of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church.
He spent most of his life working on farms and for several years worked in a West Union dairy. Four years were spent in the grocery store with his sister Carrie.
On June 6, 1939, he was married to Amy Lou Stahl in Elkader. He was a member of the Elkader Lodge No. 72, A. F. & A. M.
Survivors are his wife, three brothers, Herman F. of Volga, Henry C. of Elkader, and Fritz of Osborne, and one sister, Carrie, Mrs. Arno Gottschalk, of Elkader. His father preceded him in death in 1919 and his mother in 1944 [sic].
Funeral services were held April 24 at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Pallbearers were: Geo. Behn, Milton Klink, Adolph Elvers, Harold Ehrhardt, LeRoy Lenth, Arthur Elvers.

Elkader- Alfred Baars, 50, farmer living five miles south of Elkader, near Osborne, was killed about 10 a.m. Friday in a plowing accident.
The tractor Baars was operating upset on him, pinning him underneath. He was employed at the Art Elvers farm.
Mr. Baars is survived by his wife; two brothers, Herman, of Volga and Henry of Elkader; and a sister, Mrs. Arno Gottschalk, Elkader.
