Chester Walter was born in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1917, the son of Earl Walter and his wife Theresa, nee Oelke. He was baptized into the name of the Triune God Sept. 12, 1922; and after he had completed the prescribed course of instruction he was received as a communicant member of the Lutheran Church through the rite of confirmation July 2, 1933.
He attended the Farmersburg public schools and was graduated from the Farmersburg high school. He also attended the Elkader Junior College for one year. Later he also attended an aviation school at Kansas City, Mo., after which he worked for the Curtiss Wright Corporation at Buffalo, N.Y. He moved to Buffalo, N.Y., with his parents about 16 years ago.
During World War II he served his country as a member of the armed forces, being stationed in Germany most of the time.
On Feb. 21, 1957, he was married to Mary McLaughlin. They made their home in Amhurst, N.Y., where he worked for the highway department. It was while he was at work that he was stricken with a heart attack and died April 27, 1960, at about 9 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, two stepsons, Raymond and Richard, and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, 1960, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, with burial at the Farmersburg-Wagner cemetery. The Rev. R. H. Steege officiated.
