MRS. AUGUSTA BAARS

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Augusta Baars, 78, who died at her home here Friday, Nov. 12. The Rev. Paul Kitterer, pastor of the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed church, officiated at the services held at the home at 1:30 o’clock and at the church at 2 o’clock. Burial was made in Hillcrest cemetery at Volga City.

Mrs. Baars, the former Augusta Adam, was born in Ottlau, West Preussen, Germany, on July 29, 1865, the daughter of William and Wilhelmine Adam, and came to America on July 14, 1885, and went directly to Volga City.

She was united in marriage to Henry Baars, Dec. 6, 1885, at Elkader. For twenty-eight years the couple lived on a farm between Elkader and Volga City. In 1913 they moved to Elkader, which has since been their home.

Mrs. Baars was a member of the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed church and of the Frauen-Verein.

She is survived by one daughter, Miss Carrie, of Elkader; four sons, Herman of Volga City, Henry, Jr., of Communia, and Fritz and Alfred of Osborne, also two grandchildren, Ruth Clinton and Delbert Baars, and three great-grandchildren, Sheldon, Roland and Shirley Clinton. Her husband preceded her in death in 1919, and two children, Albert at the age of two and Hilda at the age of thirteen.

Pallbearers were: Henry Benschneider, Walter Sadawasser, George Ehrhardt, Louis J. Pahlas, Elmer J. Smith, and Louis Stallbaum.

Out of town people who attended the funeral were: Mrs. John Stender, Mrs. J. C. Glaser, August Stender, all of Wykoff, Minn.; Mrs. Bertha Stinger, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Stinger of Springville, Iowa; Miss Florence Stinger of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hagen of Waterville; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kottman, Florence and Roy, of Monona; Mrs. Sarah Kottman of Volga; Carl Gall of Farmersburg, and Mrs. Hugo Blietz, Jr., of Monona.
