Dubuque Telegraph Herald – November 11, 1949

Monona, Ia. – Services for Gustav Pufahl, 91, who died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Hardt, at Dubuque, were Sunday at 1:30 p.m. from the Schultz Funeral Home here and at 2 p.m. St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. R. C. Schlueter officiating and burial in the Lutheran Cemetery.

Gustav Pufahl was born Sept. 6, 1858 in Gromaden, Posen, Germany, the son of Gottlieb and Wilhelmina Pufahl. He came to Clayton County in 1871. On Dec. 6, 1887 he married Elizabeth Bierbaum at Cresco. The couple retired to Monona in 1919.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Albert, of Kalamazoo, Mich., a daughter, Mrs. Paul Hardt, of Dubuque; a brother Herman, of Bolivar, Mo., a sister, Hulda McInnes, of North Hollywood, Calif.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman H. Bonker, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bonker of Manly and Caroline Overbeck were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur H. Berg, enroute to Monona to attend the funeral of Gustav Pufahl, who passed away in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Hardt, at Dubuque November 3 at the age of 91 years.
