Clayton County Register, Thur., 9 Jan. 1930.

Margareth, daughter of William Rook and Sarah, nee Bowman, was born at Ransalier, Ind., on Feb., 27, 1850, and passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Embert Bergemeyer, at Elkader, Iowa, at two o'clock in the afternoon of New Year's Day, 1930, after an illness of 16 days, having attained the age of 79 years, ten months and four days.

The first eight years of her childhood were spent at the place of her birth. Then the family moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis., and when no other house was available at that time, they lived in a two-room house in old Fort Crawford. Two years later the family moved across the river to McGregor, Iowa. There Margareth was married to Edw. Bertsinger, on October 20th, 1873. The young couple went to Chicago, Ill., where the groom had found employment, shortly after the great Chicago fire. Later they returned to McGregor, where they made their home for a number of years. Then they moved to Bath, N.Y., where Mr. Bertsinger died Nov. 10, 1917. Since that time Mrs. Bertsinger has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Embert Bergemeyer, at Elkader, where she received the best of care in her declining years.

On Dec. 14, grandma suffered a stroke, from which she never rallied, but failing visibly. Realizing the seriousness of her condition, she made preparations for the final home-going.

Her departure is mourned by two surviving children, Mrs. Embret Bergemeyer, Elkader, and Ed. Bertsinger, Woodward, Iowa. Two children preceded their mother in death. She also leaves two grandchildren, Marjorie and Norma Bergemeyer, and other relatives. Grandma Bertsinger was of a kindly disposition, unassuming, and a woman of deep religious convictions. She will be missed in the family circle and by her many good friends.

------------.
Both given names Embert and Embret were used in the article.
