Joseph Cassutt died at his home here December 26, 1929 after an illness of some duration. He was born in Switzerland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cassutt and came to this county with his parents about seventy years ago.
He was educated here in Elkader and February 14, 1888 was united in marriage with Johanna Connor, here in St. Joseph's church.
To this union eight children were born: John, Francis, Fremont A., Louise, Leo, George, Alfred and Francis. Of these four survive, namely, Louise, Leo and George of Elkader and Francis of San Diego, Calif. Two sisters also survive: Miss Mary Ann here in Elkader, and Miss Mary in San Diego, Calif.
For many years Mr. Cassutt resided on a farm several miles west of Elkader on primary No. 56. About twelve years ago he retired from active farm work and had made Elkader his home.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church where funeral services were held December 30, with the Rev. J. P. Taken officiating. Pall bearers were George Ehrhardt, J. K. Molumby. F. A. Niemeyer, F. J. Uriell, F. H. Soll and Al Cook.
