Register and Argus, Elkader, Iowa, Thur., 21 Feb. 1918.
Saturday at noon the silent messenger summoned another of our well known citizens - Josephine Leonard - to that home from which no traveler returns.
She had been gradually failing in health for the past years and was confined to her home for the past seven weeks.
Josephine Elizabeth Hetzmann was born August 22d, 1858, at Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was united in marriage to Wm. H. Leonard on December 4th, 1877, who preceded her in death on December 15th, 1914.
For years they made their home on a portion of the Leonard homestead, north of Elkader, living there until March, 1914, when they moved to the residence they had purchased in the lower part of town.
She is survived by six sons, Frank and Henry, living on farms near here, John of Littleport, W. F. of Manchester, Ed of Camp Pike, Ark., Thomas at home; and three daughters - Mrs. Fred Whitley, of Elkader, Mrs. Elmer Elvidge, of Dubuque and Miss Clara at home - also two brothers, Frank B. and Louis Hetzmann - and one sister, Mrs. A. C. Smith of Elizabeth, N.J.
Mrs. Leonard was a member of the first Presbyterian church of Elizabeth, N.J. She was a faithful attendant of the Congregational church and Sunday school of this city.
The funeral services were held at the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Isaac Cassel preaching the sermon. Interment was in East Side Cemetery.
"Enters today-
Another body in church-yard sod,
Another soul in the life of God:
His Christ was buried and lives al-
way:
Trust in Him and go your way."
