Clayton County Register, Thur., 3 Jan. 1929.

Nels Jorgen Jorgensen, aged 85 years and nearly five months, passed away at the home of his grandson Carl Johansen near Gunder on Christmas Eve, following an illness of only about ten days duration.

Nels Jorgen Jorgensen was born in Hatting, Denmark, July 31, 1844. He was united in marriage with Susanna Johansen in his home land and to this union 3 children were born. While in Denmark he followed the tailoring occupation. In the year 1894 he came to America and settled on a farm in Fayette county where he lived until 1913 when the health of his wife caused them to move to the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johansen on the farm near Gunder. Here his wife died in 1919.

Grandpa Jorgensen loved his Saviour and was glad when the call came for him to lay down his burden, but he was one who enjoyed to live and it was not because he was tired of life that he wished to depart, rather that he knew of the Great Beyond. One of his greatest pleasures in the latter part of his life was to shepherd his great-grandchildren and teach them beautiful prayers and verses that had become to him gems, with the prayer that they would also become to the children what they were to him.

He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Johanne Johansen of St. Olaf; his son Jorgen Jorgensen of Buffalo, N.Y., one daughter having preceded him in death. He leaves also thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one brother, Peter Jorgensen of Hornsen, Denmark.

Interment was made in the Marion cemetery, with the Rev. T. W. Taydal officiating.
