Mrs. L. D. Smith Dies Suddenly
Funeral Services Held On Wednesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. L. D. Smith, 73, were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon from the Witt funeral home in Elkader. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated.
Mrs. Smith died very suddenly from heart attack early Monday morning at her Elkader home.
She was born Elmina Heckmaster on September 3, 1881, in Elkader and was a daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina Schmidt Heckmaster. She graduated from Elkader high school in 1897 after which she taught school for several years. Later she served as a bookkeeper in Canton, S. Dak.
In 1922 [sic] she was married to Curtis Williamson, who died on January 31, 1938 [sic]. On April 11, 1950, she was married to L. D. Smith of Elkader.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and four brothers. Surviving are her husband, one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Mickelson of Canton, S. Da.,; and one brother, Charles Heckmaster of Long Beach, Calif. There are several nieces and nephews.
Pall bearers were: Ray Barton, Harold Downey, Russell Livingston, Malcolm Stoops, Robert Hulverson and Faye Cook.
