[from the Thurs., 30 June 1932 issue of the “Clayton County Register” [Elkader, IA], page 4, column 3]

MRS. F. E. SCHMIDT

Mrs. F. E. Schmidt (nee Ella S. Leibrock) eldest of the five children of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Leibrock, was born in Elkader, Iowa, July 1, 1858. She was graduated from the high school in Elkader and later from the Iowa State Normal at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school for many years, her last position as teacher was in the high school from which she graduated years before. The influence of her beautiful life is still radiating through the pupils she so faithfully taught so many years.

On August 5, 1896, she was united in marriage to F. E. Schmidt at Elkader. Mr. Schmidt was assistant principal in the Elkader high school at the time.

In the spring of 1907 the family settled on a homestead three miles north of Bristol. Twelve years later they moved to Bristol, where they have resided ever since.

Their oldest son, Siegfried, preceded her in death March 10, 1927.

The deceased leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Mr. F. E. Schmidt, two sons, Felix of the Bristol Variety Store, Emil of Denver; one brother, and other relatives. She has been a faithful and active member of the M. E. church in Bristol, having at the time of her death held the office of the S. S. librarian, vice president of the missionary society and was a teacher of the Bible class. Mrs. Schmidt was never too tired to do the Master’s work. As librarian she always remembered to take literature to the sick. She endeared herself to her friends and neighbors by her sweet personality and her thoughtfulness and will be sincerely missed by them.

On May 16, 1932, she accidently fell from the stairway into the cellar. No bones were fractured but severe bruises were found on her body. Although she was rallying from the shock and fall and seemed to be gaining her strength, complications set in and terminated her life rather suddenly June 11, 1932, at about 8 a. m.

She was a devout Christian, a good wife and mother. May she rest in peace!—Granada (Colorado) Journal.
