ELIZABETH M. LEIBROCK.

Miss Elizabeth M. Leibrock passed away at 7:30 o’clock this morning, June 1st of heart trouble at the home of her niece Mrs. Geo. Katschkowsky with whom she has made her home for several years. Some four years ago Miss Leibrock had a long and serious illness and while she apparently fully recovered, still the disease left troubles that eventually culminated in her death. She had not been as well as usual for some two weeks past and for the past week she was confined to her bed.

Elizabeth Mae Leibrock was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leibrock, pioneer residents of Elkader, and was born here May 9th, 1874. When about five years of age she became the victim of a disease affecting one of her hips and her spine, making her a cripple whose active life was spent on crutches. In spite of this handicap and in spite of the suffering, she succeeded in graduating from the Elkader High School as a member of the class of 1890 and later studied music at the State University of Iowa training a splendid voice which she used freely for years for the pleasure of her friends and the community.

She took great interested in the Order of the Eastern Star and was secretary of the local chapter for years. She also was secretary of the Elkader High School Alumni Association for many years and always took an active part in their meetings. Always a student and a great reader she found great pleasure in the work of the Coterie and was a valued member of that society. She was a devoted member of the Congregational church and for years gave freely of her time and her voice as a member of its choir. Truly, she made much of her life and in spite of her terrible physical handicap and leaves behind her a wide circle of relatives and friends to whom her memory will ever remain sacred.

She is survived by two brothers, Frank G. of Elkader and Charles in California, and two sisters, Mrs. A. C. Hagensick of Milwaukee and Mrs. Ella Schmidt, of Bristol, Col., besides a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral services will be held at her late home on Saturday afternoon June 3rd at 2:00 o’clock Rev. W. J. Warner of the Congregational church officiating, and interment will be in the East Side cemetery.
