Frank Wiley, Edgewood Stock Buyer, Died Last Saturday After Illness

EDGEWOOD: Frank Wiley, long time resident of this place, died on Saturday after a long illness at the age of 78 years. He was born in La Salle county, Illinois on February 18, 1863 the son of Patrick Wiley and Anna Cooley Wiley and came to Iowa when he was a very young lad. He was united in marriage with Josephine N. Leonard, who preceded him in death a few years ago. To them four sons were born and survive the father. They are: Frank E. Wiley of Cedar Rapids, James of Washington D.C., Leonard of the Point, and John of Edgewood. There are also one brother and three sisters,, Michael Wiley of West Union, Mrs. Elizabeth Weringer of North Dakota, Mrs. Joseph Thurn of Manchester, and Mrs. Jessie Lucy of Aurora. There is also one grandson.

Mr. Wiley has been a stockbuyer for years and was a kindly man who had many friends who will miss his kindly greeting. He was associated in business with his son John.

Funeral services were held on Monday morning from St. Mark’s Catholic church with Rev. Father J. P. Hammill reading the service. Burial was in the local cemetery.

Last Rites for Frank Wiley Held Monday A.M.
Death came Friday evening, March 28 at six o'clock to Mr. Frank Wiley and brought to a close a long life of usefulness as a highly respected citizen of this community. Mr. Wiley had been ill for the past few weeks and had grown steadily worse. Funeral services were held Monday forenoon at 9:30 o'clock in Saint Mark's Church of which he was a devout member. The Rev. J. P. Hamill conducted the mass. Burial was made in St. Mark's Cemetery.

Frank Wiley was the sixth child of Patrick and Anna Wiley and was born at LaSalle, Ill., on February 18, 1863. In the year 1868 he came with his parents to Iowa. They settled in a place called Doe Creek. He grew to manhood in this community and on May 7, 1890 was married to Josephine Leonard. they continued to farm the old homestead until March 1, 1900 when they moved to Edgewood. Upon coming to this village he entered into the business of buying and selling livestock and was associated with several different partners over a period of over forty years. His last partner was his son, John. He was always a great admirer of horses and purchased many of them each year for eastern markets.

Four sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wiley, all of whom survive. They are James of Washington, D. C. , Frank of Cedar Rapids, John of Edgewood and Leonard of Strawberry Point. Surviving also is one grandson, Richard of Strawberry Point, one brother, Michael Wiley of West Union, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Thurn of Manchaester, Mrs. Johanna Lucey of Aurora and Mrs. Elizabeth Ringer of Britton, South Dakota. Mrs. Wiley preceded him in death on November 10, 1936 and now he goes to join her in his final resting place.
