ROBERT SCHERF
Robert Scherf, 76, retired farmer and resident of King’s County and Hanford, Calif. for many years, died early Tuesday morning following a short illness of flu and pneumonia.
He was a native of Germany and resided a little over three miles north of Hanford. Coming to the U. S. from his native land at the age of 23 he settled in Iowa where he engaged in farming for many years. In 1909 he came to California engaging in farming until his retirement several years ago.
Surviving are his widow, Clara A. Scherf, four sons, Emil Scherf of Fresno; Edward Scherf of Delta View, Tulare County; Fred Scherf and Victor Scherf of Hanford, and two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Stoner, of Hanford and Mrs. Elsie Tipps [sic] of Laton, Calif. He is also survived by a brother and two sisters living in Iowa, and eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
[TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES: He and his family lived in Wagner Township, Clayton County, in 1900. His daughter Elsie's surname is given as "Fipps" in her record in the online California Death Records database.]
