James Smith, pioneer and well known resident of this vicinity passed away Wednesday morning, May 20th*, at 12:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, where he and his faithful wife have made their home for the past eight months.
Although having been in failing health, his passing brings much sadness to the loved ones who so tenderly cared for him.
He was a kind and loving husband, father and friend, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was born December 31, 1849*, in Millville township where he spent his entire life.
In the year of 1883 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Frazier. This union was blessed with two children, John W. and Mrs. Leo Ludovissy, who with his widow are left to mourn his departure.
He is also survived by three grandchildren Berdina, Mervin and Leanna Ludovissy; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Graybill of Cassville, Wis., Mrs. Susan Wentworth and Mrs. Melissa Kilkor of Turkey River; also numerous other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at two o'clock Friday afternoon at the Goshen church. Interment was made in the Goshen cemetery.
