Mrs. Jorgen E. Haugen, of Ellington township, passed away at ten o'clock Tuesday night, Feb. 18, after an illness of several months duration in a mild form. She was confined to her bed only five days with heart trouble. A short time ago she visited two brothers at St. Olaf and was taken ill soon after her return.
Deceased was born January 25, 1860 Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 70 years.
Annie Halverson Valle was married to Jorgen E. Haugen at the home of her sister, the late Mrs. Halvor Nyhus in Mt. Valley township, Winnebago county, Iowa, in 1888 and has since been making her home on the same farm in Ellington township where she passed away.Six children were born to this union. Emma, the oldest child passed away Feb. 21 1911 at the age of 22 years. A son, Eddie is married and lives near home. Louise, Henry, Albert and Melvin are at home. She is also survived by her husband and two grandchildren and three brothers, Halvor and Louis Halvorson at St. Olaf and Sam Halverson of Forest City and two sisters, Mrs. Nels Olson of Forest City and Mrs. William Harries of Vancouver, Canada, besides a large number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Haugen was brought up in the Lutheran faith of which church she was a faithful member. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 21, at the home and from the Ellington church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. H.E. Hjelmeland, where a large gathering of relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the church cemetery.
