Halvorson, Louis 1870 - 1943

Funeral services for Louis Halvorson, 73, who died at the Postville hospital, Monday, Nov. 29, were held Thursday afternoon. Mr. Halvorson had been in poor health for the past two years but had not been helpless until six months ago.

Mr. Halvorson, the son of Lars and Helga Halvorson Valle, was born Oct. 23, 1870, in Wagner township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church by the Rev. Ole Waldeland. July 10, 1905, he was married to Anna Kirkejorden. They had two children, Leslie, now on the home farm and Harry, a younger son who died at the age of 12 in 1926.

Besides his wife and son, Mr. Halvorson leaves three grandchildren, Luella, Harriet and Deanna and one brother, Sam, of Forest City.

The Rev. S.J. Strandjord conducted the services at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock at the Norway church. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were P.N. Peterson, Knut Olson, Theo H. Wold, Andrew Wold, Henry P. Larson, Thore Kirkjorden, Ole Embretson, Wm. Monlux and Gunder Rugland.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were L.N. Olson, Louis Nyhus, Henry Nyhus, Ole Olson, Leonard Johnson, Mrs. Lena Salsac, Mrs. Julia Johnson and Mrs. Ole Pederson, all of Forest City; Mrs. Sophie Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Holt, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kruel and Mrs. Ed L. Olson, all of Boscobel, Wis.; Fred Iverson, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Iverson and Mr. and Mrs. Stanton Erickson of Decorah. Mrs. Ole Gorden and son, Aldis, of Houston, Minn., and Mrs. Lillian Auer and Paul Tetrow of Garnavillo.
