The second accident was reported at 2:00 a.m. Sunday on Highway 18-52, about two-tenths of a mile east of the Luana city limits. A 1963 Chevrolet passenger car driven by Robert F. Shady, 16, Farmersburg, went out of control on the icy highway and went over a right hand embankment, striking an Interstate power pole, ripping off the left door, throwing the driver out, completing a spin around the pole and traveling easterly in the ditch and coming to rest on its wheels.

Shady was brought by ambulance to the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, where he died a short time later. Allen Lavern Peterson, 16, Farmersburg, a passenger in the car with Shady, received only minor injuries. The car was a total loss.
