Clayton: Winthrop A. Robinson was born at Burton, Grant county, Wis., Oct. 16, 1855, and passed away at his home in Clayton, March 28, 1934.

Most of his life was spent on the Mississippi river. His early life was spent on wood boats used on the river then. Later he became a ship carpenter working for the Diamond Joe steamboat company. Bud, as he was known to most of his friends, was also a diver for that same company doing most all diving on [the] upper Mississippi working under water on such boats as the 'Quincy' and 'Ravina'. He could tell many interesting stories about the early settlers life and hardships on the river.

When Bud first came to Clayton county he farmed what is known as Cap Killeen's island. The remaining years he retired for work in Clayton, Iowa.

He was united in marriage in 1876 to Miss Caroline Fullbright, who passed away in 1888. To this union were born six children, two of whom preceded their father in death.

Four sons mourn his passing, namely, John of Austin, Minn.; Thomas of Fort Madison, Iowa; Hiram and Forest of Harper's Ferry, Iowa.

He was united in marriage in the year 1890 to Mrs. Adaline Chewning of Dubuque, Iowa and to this union two children were born, Orville preceding him in death and Clifford, living at home.

Mr. Robinson made many friends and was a man of his word. It meant more to him than any written record. He was a kind and loving father and took great pride in his home and family. He will be sadly missed by a large number of friends.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow and children; two stepdaughters, Grace Beckett of Clayton, and Daisy Kneeskern of Frankville, Iowa; one brother, Sydney Robinson of Alton, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Sadie Arthur of Platville, Wis.; fifteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at his home in Clayton, Iowa, at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, March 31st, H.L. Ginn and R.P. Roedeil of Dubuque officiating. Burial took place in the Clayton cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Sidney Robinson of Alton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson and family of Harper's Ferry; Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Robinson and son of Harper's Ferry; Mrs. Marian Woods of Minneapolis, Minn., John Woods of Davenort, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wilkeneyer, of Edgewood, Iowa; Mrs. Metcalf of Dubuque, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kneeskern and family of Frankville, Iowa; Mrs. Mattie Chewning of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. John Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Arthur, Will Arthur and Mrs. Walter Jones all of Plattville, Wis.; Herman Hostert and Mrs. Theo Licht and family of Dubuque, Iowa.
