The 'North Iowa Times' tells of the death of Mrs. Joseph Winterlin, who formerly lived here. It says: "While crossing a temporary bridge near her home, Mrs. Joseph Winterlin fell into the sewer Tuesday morning, Jan. 5th. She was immediately taken to the Hospital, where her injuries were found serious. A fractured skull and internal injuries caused her death three hours after the accident."
~Register and Argus, January 14, 1915Note: Court News columns in subsequent issues of the paper indicated that Anna Winterlin, as Executrix of her mother's estate, sued the town of McGregor for $10,000 damages on account of injuries suffered and the death of Mrs. Winterlin. The case was continued several times, and the final settlement, if any, is unknown by the contributor of the obit.
*Her maiden name is spelled differently depending on the source. Given name on gravestone in Pleasant Grove cemetery is Margaretha. Newspaper articles variously have Margaret or Maggie. The contributor does not know which spelling is correct.
