The Dubuque papers convey the information that Eugene Meuth, of Buena Vista, was found dead in his bed at that place on Tuesday morning, October 15, 1889. When he retired Monday evening he was in his usual health, but during the night he passed peacefully away.
Mr. Meuth was among the early settlers of Clayton county, having located at Buena Vista in 1857. Mr. M. was a native of Bavaria, Germany, where he was born September 25th, 1835, consequently a little over 64 years of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1854, and in 1857 came to Clayton county with his brother, R. Meuth, and engaged in the business which they have since continued.
In 1876, he moved to Volga City, where they opened a branch store, which they operated until 1882, when he returned to Buena Vista. He was the postmaster at this latter place from 1870 to 1878, and since that time the office has been held by his brother. He never married, but is survived by two brothers and a sister.
