Peter Joseph Kennedy was born near Philadelphia, Pa., May 23rd, 1851. The family lived at different places in that state until 1858, when they moved to a farm near Bankston, Dubuque county, Iowa, which they had previously purchased. Here the family made their home until 1869, when they again moved to a farm in Highland township, which still remains the family home.
The deceased has always engaged in farming and although he never married and had no separate home of his own, he did much to assist his parents to make a comfortable home and faithfully helped his brother to keep his home and family together, after the great calamity in 1889, when the greater portion of it was carried away by the dread disease diphtheria.
Of his brothers and sisters there are Martin Kennedy, still living at the old home at Bankston; Mrs. John Horiskey, of O'Neill, Nebr., and Patrick, at the home in Highland township, at which place his death occurred on Tuesday evening, April 14th, 1914.
The funeral was held on Friday morning at St. Joseph's church, Father J.F. Reilly officiating and was attended by many of the neighbors, relatives and friends. Burial was in the family lot in St. Joseph's cemetery.
