Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, 1960, for Anna M. Kennedy at St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D.A. Gorman officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery, Elkader.
Pallbearers were Leo Keleher, Ray Carolan, Edward Burlingame Sr., Leo Boland, Edward Boland and William Orr. Acolytes were John Gerken, Dennis and Richard Troester.
Anna, the daughter of the late P.J. and Mary Kennedy, was born Dec. 16, 1886, in Highland Township. At the age of three her mother, a brother and three sisters were stricken with diphtheria and died, leaving Anna, her brother Walter and her father. The family was cared for by the grandmother until her death. Anna, at the age of 16 assumed all household duties, caring for her father until his death.
She lived on the family farm until 17 years ago when she and her brother Walter moved to Elkader.
About 15 years ago Anna was stricken with arthritis but despite her lingering illness and suffering she remained cheerful and active in religious and community activities.
Her brother, Walter, survives.
