Adeline Englehardt, 19, of Monona was seriously burned when she attempted to pour kerosene on a fire Friday morning, at the Ed. Dickman farm home, north of Garnavillo. She died that evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Engelhardt, in Monona, from the effect of the burns.
Miss Englehardt, who was assisting with the work at the Dickman farm, was attempting to start a fire in the kitchen stove with kerosene, when the accident occurred. The flames, which burst out of the stove, set fire to her clothing and burned her severely before they could be put out by Mrs. Dickman, who was in the house. In putting out the flames, Mrs. Dickman's arms were quite severely burned, but at this writing she is getting along very nicely.
Shortly after the accident, Miss Englehardt was taken to the home of her parents in Monona, where medical assistance was given, but the burns were of such nature that they caused her death later that day.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church in Monona with the Rev. A. Daugs officiating. Interment was made in the city cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph W. Englehardt, of Monona, one brother, Marvin Englehardt, and a half-brother, Edwin Englehardt of Monona, and two grandmothers, Mrs. Christian Bentien and Mrs. Henry Englehardt, of Monona.
