KRAUS, KRAUSS, LINDER, WIESENDER, WESENDER, FALK, SCHUG

Strawberry Point - Bartholomew Kraus, the oldest resident of Strawberry Point, died at his home here early Thursday morning. His death was announced by the tolling of the Lutheran church bell at the early hour.

Mr. Kraus was born in Bavaria, Germany,, January 22, 1838, and came to this country in 1867. Mr. and Mrs. Kraus and their nine year old son arrived at Manchester and all walked to Arlington to the home of Adam Linder, who came to this country six years before. The next year Mr. Kraus began farming, which occupation he followed until he moved to Strawberry Point, forty-three years ago.

Mrs. Kraus, formerly Miss Anna Margaret Wiesender, died Nov. 5, 1919. Mr. Kraus is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. Jacob Falk, Cresco; Mrs. Minnie Schug and Miss Elizabeth Kraus of this place and John Kraus of Kirby, Ore., also four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A few years ago he lost his eyesight and since that time has been given the best of care by his daughters, Mrs. Minnie Schug and Miss Elizabeth Kraus, who live with him. He was the oldest member of the Emmanuel Lutheran church, having joined soon after it was organized in Oct. 1878. He attended regularly until he lost his eyesight.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran church by his pastor, the Rev. Jahr. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
