Funeral services for Ira Paul "Happy" Bissell, 87, were held Monday, Oct. 19, 1992, at Leonard-Vernon Funeral Home, Edgewood. Rev. Mary Green officiated the service with burial in Hansel Cemetery, rural Garber. Honorary pallbearers were Karla Aarhus. Kim Potter, Jennifer Smith, Tami Pelley, Rachal Pelley, Heather Trey, Heidi Trey and Danielle Kulper. Pallbearers were Kris Aarhus, Jeff Pelley, Cory Pelley, Kurt Aarhus, Chad Pelley, Derek Pelley and Seth Pelley.
Ira Paul Bissell, son of James and Rose (Jaeger) Bissell, was born April 29, 1905, at Arlington, Iowa. He grew up and was educated in the Clayton County area attending country school. On June 21, 1926, he was united in marriage to Jennie Ingles at Manchester. They farmed in Delaware County and Garber areas until they began working at the Clayton County Mental Health Facility. They supervised the residents there until retirement. His wife died November 3, 1978. He lived on a farm outside of Edgewood until a year ago, when he began staying with his daughter in Marion. Ira Bissell died after a brief illness Friday, Oct. 16, 1992, at his daughter's home.
Survivors include his daughter Arlene (Mrs. Arlo) Pelley of Marion; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and three brothers, Frank of Hemet, Calif., Charley of Ranchester, Wyo., and Ray of Arlington
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Delores Hansel and Wilma Connelly; a son Harold; five brothers; three sisters; and four grandchildren in infancy.
