Memorial services were held for Christine C. Meyer, Sunday, Oct. 18, 1992, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader. Rev. Lance A. Bentley officiated. Interment was at East Side Cemetery.

Christine Meyer was born June 27, 1905,in Elkader to Christian and Emma Kregel Schmidt. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Church. She graduated from Elkader High School and attended the University of Iowa. On May 3, 1929, she was married to Arthur J. Meyer. Most of their life was spent in Elkader, although they spent winters in Roswell, New Mexico for about 10 years. Christine was very active in church and community affairs. She sang in the church choir and was a soloist at many weddings and funerals. She was a past matron of Order of Eastern Star, past president and past regional president of Evangelical and Reformed Church Guild, and served as state president of E & R. Synod Guild. She helped organize and was first president of the Elkader Band Boosters and also the Central Community Hospital Auxiliary; was a past county chairman of Women's Clubs; a past district director and state president of the Rural Carriers Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, George Schmidt; and two sisters, Elma Schmidt Franke and Helen Schmidt Dittmer.

She is survived by her two children, Audrey Bickenbach of Beaufort, S.C., and Don Leigh Meyer, Elkader; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
