Strawberry Point - Services were held today, Monday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m. for Merle (Pete) Debes, 55, Greeley, a former Strawberry Point resident, at the First United Methodist church, Strawberry Point, with Dr. John DeLong officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery. The Feeney-Knutson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The son of Gregor and Mertie Pugh Debes, Merle Anson Debes was born Dec. 6, 1913, at Strawberry Point, where he had lived the greater part of his life. He died suddenly Friday, Feb. 7, in his home. He was a member of the Methodist church and served in World War II.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mertie Debes, Strawberry Point; two sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Wilma) Hageman, Colesburg; Mrs. Dunna Wold, Waterloo; a brother, Gregor Debes Jr., Elkader. Preceding him in death was his father.
