Funeral services for Clara Francis Welch, 74, were held Friday, August 13, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Msgr. L. W. Klassen officiated. Burial was in Asension Cemetery at Libertyville, Ill.
Mrs. Welch suffered an apparent heart attack at her home at 110 Spruce Street NW and died about 10:30 a.m. on August 10. She had been preparing dinner and was found on the floor by her brother, Thomas Leonard, when he called for a visit.
A daughter of William and Josephine Leonard, she was born at Elkader on September 12, 1896. She was educated in the Elkader public school. On Oct. 15, 1932, she was married to Albert Welch at Waukegan, Ill. Mr. Welch died in 1966 and in 1969 Mrs. Welch left Waukegan and came to Elkader to live at the home of her late brother, Ed Leonard.
During her adult years she was occupied as a homemaker. She belonged to the Royal Neighbors, the Catholic Church Guild, the Senior Citizens and the World War I Veterans' Auxiliary.
She is survived by one brother, Thomas M. Leonard, Evansdale. She was preceded by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters.
