Elkader Register, Thur., 25 Mar. 1920. As published.

William Hildebrandt was born near Steffenhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, on August 11, 1855, and passed away at his home in Elkader, Iowa, on Monday evening, March 16, at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 4 days.

As a young man he came to this country and located near Elkport, Iowa, where he was married to Mrs. Caroline Muller, nee Du_ling, a widow with seven children. To this union five children were born, of which two died in infancy.

The family lived on a farm between Communia and Littleport for many years until the children had grown up and established homes of their own. By this time the parents had grown old and the effects of hard work and the infirmities of the years compelled them to take life easy. Consequently they decided to move to Elkader, which was about two years ago.

Mr. Hildebrandt was for some time afflicted with asthma and other complications, and of late it was apparent that he was failing visibly. He received the best of care from his faithful wife and kind neighbors and friends until his eyes closed in the last sleep.

His departure is mourned by his wife, three children: Adolph Hildebrandt, of Littleport, Mrs. Ed Stahl, of Giard and Mrs. John Thein of Littleport. Seven step-children: Charles, John, William and Fred Miller all of Chicago, Mrs. Mary Jones of Chicago, Henry Miller of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Peter Klink of Communia. Nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also leaves one brother, Christ Hildebrandt of Littleport, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Scheer of Edgewood and Mrs. John Gentz of Minn., and many old time friends and neighbors will also mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held in the Friedens church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Franke, interment in the East Side cemetery.

One letter of Caroline Muller's birth surname was ink blotched, it may be Duhling of Dubling.

Both surnames, Muller and Miller, are used as they were published.
