Clayton County Register, Wed., 25 Oct. 1939. As published.

St. Olaf - This community was shocked last Monday when it was learned that L. O. Embretson had died very suddenly at the Decorah hospital.

The deceased, Ludwig Joseph Embretson, was born on January 4, 1878, in Wagner township. He had reached the age of 61 years, nine months and 12 days at the time of his death.

The early years of Mr. Embretson's life were spent on the farm of his parents. On June 15, 1905 he was united in marriage with Mary Bertha Wold. Two sons were born to this union, Walde and Lorando, both of this vicinity.

The first years of his married life were spent on a claim in Dakota, after which he moved to St. Olaf, where he was engaged in carpenter work. In 1912 he moved to the Knute Embretson farm, where he lived until the time of his death.

For many years he served as secretary of the school board of Wagner township. He also served as township assessor for several years. He was an active member of the Norway Lutheran church. His sudden death came as a shock to the entire community. Not until Saturday morning had it been necessary for him to seek medical aid and on Sunday morning he was taken to the Decorah hospital, where his affliction was discovered to be lockjaw. Everything possible was done to relieve his condition but to no avail and on Monday morning, Oct. 16 at 7:30, he died.

He leaves to mourn his sudden death his wife, the aforementioned sons, one daughter, Marlene, one sister, Mrs. Johanna Larson of Fosston, Minn., besides a host of nieces and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 at the house and 2:00 at the Norway Lutheran church, Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Casketbearers were Andrew Wold, Theodore Wold, Jno. Wold, Louie Rierson and Adolph Olson. Interment was made in the Norway cemetery.
